Signs of Differential Trouble and How to Help Prevent Issues

Signs of Potential Differential Damage and Prevention

A damaged differential could cost you a race, leave you stuck off-road, cause safety issues and even unfavorably impact other parts of your vehicle. Based on our experience interacting with customers, here are common “symptoms” of differential damage.

Symptoms of a Damaged Differential

Symptoms of differential damage may include those you can see, hear, smell, and even feel.  Common issues with a potentially damaged differential include:

  • Excessive noises coming from your front or rear axles
  • Difficulty in handling steering wheel
  • Tires showing wear
  • Fluid leaking out of the cover

Does It Need to be Replaced?

First and foremost, we recommend that you have an authorized shop assess any car issues.

Depending on the recommendation of their evaluation, the differential may need to be replaced if damaged.  The issue could be coming from other locations in the vehicle.

If the OE differential needs replaced, Auburn Gear has Limited-Slip, electronic Open-to-Lock and electronic Limited-Slip replacement differentials to increase the overall performance of your vehicle!
